Jets Hall of Famer accepts job as high school head coach

Kevin Mawae has a new gig.

The Pro Football Hall of Famer will be the next head coach of Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tennessee, The Athletic’s Matt Fortuna reports.

Mawae will be replacing Trent Dilfer, who led the team to a 13-0 record and state title for the second year in a row last season.

Mawae has been an assistant for the Indianapolis Colts for the past two seasons. In his 16-season NFL career, he spent time with the New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, and Seattle Seahawks.

Fortuna reports that Lipscomb Academy also interviewed Jason Witten, Jon Kitna, and Ty McKenzie for the job.

Mawae is considered to have been one of the best centers in the game and displayed much of that with the Jets from 1998 to 2005. During that time, he was selected to the Pro Bowl in six consecutive years.
